Meet the Principal

Twila Garza, Ed.D.

As principal of Rose E. Krug Elementary, for the second year in a row, I have even higher expectations for myself. Our school community has integrity, character, and genuinely cares about the students. Krug has a reputation of being a “family oriented” school, and offers students the opportunity to be instructed by truly exceptional and dedicated teachers.

For the past 20 years I have had the privilege of being a teacher and a principal. It has always been important to make learning experiences for children both fun and educational. Early in my career I taught elementary students with learning disabilities and social emotional disorders, for a couple of years I collaborated with many schools as behavior specialist, and then I was appointed principal of an alternative high school. When I decided to return to the elementary setting, Krug was the only school I wanted to work in - and the students, parents, and staff have definitely welcomed me into the Krug family.

As a leader, I passionately believe that…

  • students come first, they value positive relationships with adults, and learn best from engaging in meaningful and relevant academics

  • parents’ opinions matter, they want their children to be successful, deserve prompt and ongoing communication and need to be partners with school personnel

  • educators are a critical factor related to student success, want current information and support regarding instructional research, value honest feedback, and can be open to change and improvement

  • community partners need to be connected to the school and our job of educating students

  • I have been married to my husband for 33 years, have three children, and seven grandchildren, all under the age of six…they keep me very busy! When I’m not at school I enjoy reading, riding wave runners, attending plays and musicals, boating, singing karaoke (not very well – just ask my husband!), eating in ma and pa type restaurants, motorcycling off-the-beaten-path roads, taking photographs, golfing, and caring for my animals (snake and tarantula).

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s life by contributing to their academic and social emotional successes. You are always welcome to come to Krug and witness, firsthand, the exciting work your child is participating in…prepare to be amazed.

    Educationally yours,

    Dr. Twila Garza
